Kid‑Friendly Sweet Daily Spoonful Tonic (24‑oz Bottle)

As the temperatures in Winnipeg drop into that dangerously cold range and more people around us start getting sick, I wanted to share something simple and comforting that I’ve been making for my own family. Winter here can be harsh, and sometimes the smallest rituals — a warm drink, a sweet spoonful, a familiar scent — make the biggest difference.

This is a sweet, kid‑friendly tonic that brings warmth, citrus, and a little extra care into these freezing days. It’s not a treatment or a cure — just a gentle, homemade blend that families can enjoy as part of their daily routine.

🍯 Kid‑Friendly Sweet Daily Spoonful Tonic (24‑oz Bottle)

Ingredients

Base

• Buckwheat honey — fill your 24‑oz bottle to the shoulder (about 20–22 oz)

Citrus & Fruit

• 1 lemon, thinly sliced

• 1 orange, thinly sliced

• 2–4 tablespoons apple cider (not vinegar)

• Optional: a few thin slices of fresh apple for extra sweetness

Roots

• 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, sliced

• ½ teaspoon turmeric powder or 2–3 thin slices fresh turmeric

Warm Spices (gentle for kids)

• ½ cinnamon stick

• 2 cloves

• 1–2 peppercorns

• 1 star anise

• 1 bay leaf

Optional Sweet‑Boosters

• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

• or 1 teaspoon maple syrup

• or a pinch of rose petals

🥄 How to Make It

1. Add all the sliced fruit, roots, and spices into your empty 24‑oz bottle.

2. Pour in the buckwheat honey slowly so it fills all the spaces.

3. Add the apple cider last so it blends evenly.

4. Seal the bottle and let it infuse for 48 hours at room temperature.

5. Move it to the fridge after 48 hours.

6. Shake gently before each spoonful.

🥄 How We Use It

• Kids: 1 small spoonful a day

• Adults: 1 spoonful a day

It tastes like a warm, sweet, citrus‑spice syrup — cozy, bright, and comforting.

⏳ How Long It Lasts

Stored in the fridge, this tonic stays fresh for 4–6 weeks.

The honey naturally preserves the fruit and spices.

If the fruit becomes very soft or the flavor changes noticeably, it’s time to make a new batch.

🌿 A Spoonful of Comfort for Winnipeg Winters

Winnipeg winters are no joke — the cold settles deep, the wind bites, and sickness spreads quickly. This little tonic has become one of my favorite ways to bring warmth back into our days. It’s simple, it’s sweet, and it’s something the whole family can enjoy together.

If you try it, I hope it brings your home the same comfort it brings mine.
